Across the globe, we can feel the effects of climate change.

Ireland still relies heavily on fossil fuels – about 70% of our energy is generated using oil, coal, peat, and other non-renewable sources, which has a serious effect on the environment.

Together, we need to take action to tackle climate change.

This year, the government launched the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat, or “SSRH” for biomass heating; a financial incentive to encourage businesses to switch from fossil fuels to more sustainable heating.

This means that business owners will recieve set payments every year for 15 years – essentially allowing you to generate heat for your farm or business, for free.

70% of Ireland's energy is generated using oil, coal, peat and other fossil fuels.

SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority in Ireland) are now offering a financial incentive to business owners for the installation of non-domestic Biomass Boiler Systems in the Republic of Ireland. The incentive, called the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat, or SSRH, will pay a set amount per kWh of heat produced on a tiered basis. Businesses will receive quarterly payments over the course of 15 years.

The SSRH is a government funded initiative, designed to increase the energy generated from renewable sources in the heat sector. It will contribute to meeting Ireland’s 2020 renewable energy targets, on which we are lagging behind. It will also contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

So, as a business owner, how can you claim SSRH?

  1. You must first fill out this form for eligibility. In order to claim this funding, applicants must meet certain criteria and comply with industry standards. By filling out this form, the SEAI will give you an indication as to whether or not you will qualify to receive SSRH payments.
  2. Following the eligibility assessment, you must then complete a technical assessment. The SEAI will ask you for details on your business’s heat demand, the boiler you wish to install, etc.  Woodco has a dedicated team to assist our customers in the completion of these forms.
  3. Within 25 days, if your application is successful, the SEAI will send you a letter of offer. You are then free to begin the installation of your Biomass Boiler system.
