Now in the capable hands of Mary’s Children Paddy Fitzgerald and Sinead Carberry, Woodlands continues to set the standard in the care and wellbeing of all their residents. Located between Thurles, Cashel and Tipperary town Woodlands is easily accessed and is only 30 Min from Limerick,40 min from Cork and 1 hour from Dublin.

With a definite emphasis on retaining the Homely atmosphere, all of the staff at Woodlands are from the local area which brings a continuity to all residents in their transfer from their own home into what they hope will become their “Home away from Home”

With a full daily activity program and visits from local musicians, school groups, religious orders etc. life in Woodlands is far from what you would expect in a healthcare setting.

Woodlands Nursing Home, Tipperary. WoodCo installed a 150kW Eco-Cabin with 17 tonne fuel store.

The Vision for Biomass:

The Woodlands Nursing Home, Tipperary uses 371Mwh of heat per annum and wanted to make savings while having a positive impact on the environment. They recognised LPG Gas was producing huge amounts of carbon each year. The building wasn’t suitable for a heat pump as they needed a plug and play solution that could be connected into their existing heating system.

The Solution- Biomass:

Woodco supplied an Eco-cabin under an ESCO agreement which means the care home only pays for the heat they use, at an agreed price guaranteed to be less than the current cost of gas. This suited The Woodlands as they didn’t wish to have an initial cost of purchasing the boiler. They also used enough heat to be considered for the ESCO agreement.

The site was ideally suited for biomass as they had enough space at the back for a cabin and fuel store and had access for fuel delivery trucks. The cabin was then connected into the existing heating system with very little changes to the buildings heating pipework. The clients are impressed with the silence and cleanliness of the system. Woodco has entered into a 15-year operation and maintenance agreement with the care home and they just pay for the heat they uses under an ESCO (Energy Supply Contract) agreement.
