Woodco installed a wood chip biomass boiler at Eurodeck in Co. Laois. This renewable energy project is using locally sourced wood chip fuel. The system generates over 2,268,000 kWh per year, and they are receiving over €40,000 per annum on the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat by the SEAI.
Who are Eurodeck?
Eurodeck are based in Ireland have a cutting-edge extrusion facility which is currently being expanded from 60,000 sq. ft. to 120,000 sq. ft. to meet the evolving needs of their customers. This advanced facility not only boosts their production capacity but also underscores their commitment to innovation and excellence. Eurodeck require a large amount of heat to dry their wood ingredients in composite decking, and the biomass boiler will be required to be working 24/7 (right now it is required 12 hours per day).
Why Eurodeck Chose Woodco:
✅ Extensive track record in commercial renewable energy projects
✅ Complete support on grant applications
✅ Projects delivered on time and within budget
✅ Exceptional health & safety performance
✅ 100% Irish-owned, with responsive local technical support
Project Highlights
The Process
Eurodeck initially contacted Woodco as the wood fibre in their composite products needed to have >8% moisture content and this process requires a significant amount of heat.
Woodco commenced with a detailed site survey and provided Eurodeck with detailed energy-savings calculations, grant savings and a full turnkey quotation.
After detailed discussions Eurodeck proceeded with the biomass boiler installation. Woodco’s in house administration team applied for the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat grant to the SEAI and provided the necessary paperwork for Eurodeck to apply for planning permission. Initially the boiler will be working for 12 hours per day, but will be required to work 24/7 in the future.
Innovative Approaches of this Project:
Huge Savings on Fuel
With Eurodeck’s large requirement for heat, they plan on utilising the biomass system 24/7 which will result in savings of up to €254,016 per annum (excluding the SSRH payment).
SEAI Grant
Eurodeck are availing of the SEAI grant called the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat, which provides them with €40,000 per annum for 15 years!
Fuel Security & Local Supply:
The boilers are designed for wood chip fuel sourced from local suppliers, the fuel is located within a one-hour radius of the school. This guarantees supply chain resilience, cost stability, and economic benefits for the local community.
Quality & Efficiency Assured:
Fuel is certified under the Irish Wood Fuel Quality Assurance Scheme, ensuring consistent performance, high combustion efficiency, and reduced maintenance. This is crucial for compliance with the SEAI Grant Scheme.
